I help leaders of social impact organizations solve difficult problems.

With 15 years of successful for-profit and nonprofit experience, I understand the pressures leaders face. I offer a unique mix of strategic and management expertise along with hands-on tactical ability: 7 years as an Executive Director combined with background in computer science, Silicon Valley product management, and mindfulness. Empathy, honesty, and humor are key for me, because the way we collaborate lays the foundation for our achievements.

How I Can Help You

Executive Coaching: Lean on an experienced, committed, and confidential thought partner outside of your staff, board, or personal inner circle. Having been in similar shoes, I can help you perform at your best both professionally and personally through the many challenges you face each day.

Organizational Assessment: Quickly evaluate your organization's overall health, revealing areas where you'd like support. This is often the best place to start.

Strategic Planning: Review and develop strategy, including building earned income streams (such as online training), financial models, staffing & culture, and presentations for your board, staff, and other stakeholders.

Fundraising: Review and improve your fundraising strategy, case statement, grant proposals, and ability to successfully win the support of funders.

Marketing & Social Media: Analyze your traffic and identify the most cost-efficient strategies to generate broader awareness of your work.

Testimonials

"Having funded numerous nonprofits over the years, I can say that very few have the managerial talent that Randy offers. Even fewer actually emerge from uncertain, nascent markets as strongly as Mindful Schools did, even with the best at the helm. Randy did an exceptional job of strategically integrating growth with values to materialize a vision that has helped so many educators and students."

- Martha Bolinger, Director, The Trust for the Meditation Process

"As Senior Program Officer at Kalliopeia Foundation, I had the pleasure of working with Randy for years while he led Mindful Schools through complex transitions and impressive growth, helping the organization maintain and extend its leadership in the burgeoning mindfulness field. By combining his strong technical aptitudes and dedicated spirit of service, Randy was consistently an exemplary leader and astute tactician, evoking trust and confidence in his thought processes, responsiveness, creativity, and - always - his affable nature. Randy's skill-set is broad and deep and he will bring value to any organization."

- Alan Zulch, Senior Director, Tamalpais Trust

"Randy is an exemplary, proactive individual who gets fully invested in his projects. At NVIDIA, he took on significant challenges, such as writing and editing the multiple books we published, paving the way for success with his diligence. I could always trust that Randy would work hard and thoughtfully to completion, even in uncharted territory, while exuding a positive attitude."

- Chris Seitz, Global Account Manager, Intel Corporation

"Mindful Schools is among a very small elite of high performing, innovative nonprofits that have played a key role in creating a field and in doing so have become a beacon for how to scale with fidelity to quality. Randy is an exemplar leader who took Mindful Schools to new heights, staying true to his principles and acting with mindfulness."

- Denis Udall, Program Officer, William & Flora Hewlett Foundation

Track Record

As Executive Director from 2010 to 2017 (co-ED from 2010-12), I helped Mindful Schools grow from a fledgling direct-service program to a leading organization in the Mindfulness & Education field with a strong reputation for quality.

As of January 2017, Mindful Schools had trained approximately 20,000 people worldwide, impacting over 800,000 children, and had nearly 300,000 followers on Facebook.

The rapid growth of 100x in impact and 10x in budget was accomplished over seven consecutive profitable fiscal years. We changed business models from direct service to physical training to online training, requiring me to step into a wide range of hands-on roles over the years, including marketing, technology, research, finance, and HR.

I'm proud that we were able to achieve all this growth while maintaining exceptional quality and integrity, which is particularly challenging in the online training space:

• Courses recommended by 98% of graduates

• Rated 4.7/5.0 stars on Facebook with 481 reviews (as of Jan. 2017)

• Nearly 300,000 Facebook followers (as of Jan. 2017)

Before Mindful Schools, I worked for 7 years in Product and Program Management roles at NVIDIA Corporation, where I successfully ran challenging award-winning projects (some with over 100 people involved) on schedule with limited resources. These projects included authoring three bestselling computer graphics books, managing various software products, and developing software algorithms.

At NVIDIA, I was also fortunate to serve as an inaugural board member of the employee-run NVIDIA Foundation, which gave me experience building a charitable foundation from scratch, setting strategy, and reviewing grants.

Most of all, I've adhered firmly to my values throughout my career. Sincere intention, diligent effort, and kindness have been instrumental in accomplishing challenging goals with integrity. I'm also deeply grateful to the various mentors and colleagues who have taught me so much along the way.
